Farming Business

Guido Favilla

Our agricultural enterprise Guido Favilla was founded in 1996. Following family tradition, he qualified himself as a nurseryman, then, since 2006, after enhancing a meticulous pursuit for healthy and authentic flavours he engaged on the cultivation of ancient grain flours such as: Senatore Cappelli, Verna and Gentil Rosso. He believed so firmly in his projects that until 2012 he kept up planting, harvesting and manually beating everything, despite the small number of grains held and the low yields that this grain genetically produces, until he achieved to produce so much crop that it had to be harvested by mechanical means. Cultivation accuracy and respect for the earth is what defines its flours characteristics, which quality is enriched by stone-milled process that keeps the wheat properties from being altered. Wheat’s productions increase made possible rotations in harvest, hence the possibility to plant more, for instance: red and yellow Formenton Ottofile corn, spelt and legumes such as chickpeas and bean (Rosso Lucchese, Malato,Cannellino,Scritto and Borlotto). Favilla’s products have always been a guarantee of high quality and excellence. Consequently, since 2014 it has chosen to follow organic agriculture through nature and end consumers’ respect. Guido Favilla’s farming business recently became part of LuccaBiodinamica, a network of companies that aim to convert farming, which is not considered only for its productive capacity of the soil, into a chance to increase its healthy nutritional benefits.

Bertazzoli

The two hectares of Bertazzoli’s lands are laid out like the Apuan ledges, which are, in terms of geographical structure, similar to the hills found in the nearby coast of 5 terre.
In the last three decades, Ruggero Francesco Bertuccelli has been producing wine in Massa (Tuscany). His devotion, which started in 2003, lead him to create the
Bertazzoli’s farming business. His family and Francesco’s commitment can be seen in their production which counts thousands of wine bottles per year. Their products are designed to those who appreciate its typical characteristic, its unique mix of traditional and local grapes, as well as its absolute quality.
Each vineyard row is worked by hand without any heavy vehicles, so that each grapevine, from the root to the grapes, will not be ruined by the intense intrusive work done by machineries; this is in fact the foundation for biodynamic. Moreover, the low performance for each stump and a very careful selection both in the vineyard and in the wine cellar guarantee constant excellence and quality.
The vineyards, thanks to the high steep slopes (up to 100% in some parts) and to its 200 Mt above the sea level, have high temperature changes, great ventilation and they feed on a land that is deep and loose. These are the best precondition to the highest quality of viticulture. At last, its scent persistency and its elegance are ensured by the sea-mountain microclimate typical of the Apuan coast.

Imperiale

Imperiale is born and grows from the solid foundations laid by the farmer’s generation of Matteo Frollani’s family, who is very familiar in this field. In fact, Matteo’s father, Ennio Frollani is one of the sixth founders of the D.O.C Bolgheri. Despite his past, Matteo has given a completely new and risky influence to his business, this by using innovative methods and products in different fields betting against those who judged them as unfounded. With his work, he decided to commit in order to carry on his health and respect beliefs by making them transpire in the exquisiteness of his products.

It is precisely here that his idea to plant ancient grains (even if low in yield) and to make flour and pasta out of it comes from. Here it is also where he was able to patent new methods for traditional products such as in-barrique honey. Matteo, will also bet on thousands of olive trees going against the opinion and advices of many; instead, he will decide to hold onto the traditional path for his wine productions while persisting with his morals.

Canning Business

Mediterranea Belfiore

Mediterranea Belfiore is a family – run canning business. It was born in 1952 with the growth of tomatoes in the Ciarlo’s family farm, located nearby the sea in Cecina, province of Livorno. In 1974, when the agriculture suffered due to many farmers quitting for the low income that it gave, Donato, founder of the company, decided to create a lab for the making of processed tomatoes by using only home-made methods. 1989 was the year where the change towards organics methods for the processing of tomatoes begun, until becoming 100% organic in 1996.

This business does not have the pace of an industrial production company as it prepares its specialties with extreme artisanal care and love of those who work for pride. By following this belief, they transform raw material that comes from selected agricultural enterprises, favouring those who hold an organic certification for all their tomatoes and for the most of the other ingredients. No semi-finished products are used but only fresh vegetables and herbs, whereas for their in-oil products and vegetable creams only extra-virgin olive oil is used.

Winery

Michele Satta

The business was founded in 1983, just one year before the establishment of the Doc of Bolgheri and it was in fact one of the first protagonists.
In 1991 the first vineyard was planted with the consciousness of wanting to produce a wine that could be faithful to the wake created by Sassicaia and Onellaia.
Hence the need to plant alongside the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, grapes that could better express the Bolgheri Mediterranean terroir; Sangiovese and Syrah.

Michele Satta was the first to bring Syrah, Teroldego and Viognier to this land and the first one to vinify wines 100% Vermentino and 100% Sangiovese.
In this family-style company, with a stable size on 32 hectares, are currently being produced 150.000 bottles obtained from their own grapes.

Winery

Terre del Marchesato

Bolgheri is considered one of the most unique terroirs in the world thanks to its microclimate which is perfect for grapevine’s growth and for the production of very high-quality wine.
. Right in the heart of this location lies “Terre del Marchesato” with its Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Vermentino vineyards. The story begins in 1954 when Emilio Fuselli decided to buy a plot of land that belonged to the Marquise Incisa della Rocchetta. Emilio started to till the soil, build his house and planted his first vineyard which was designed to produce wine for the family. After him, his son Aldo, continued the business by expanding the company and introducing the production of extra-virgin olive oil. Maurizio Fuselli, grandson of Emilio, after gaining ten years of experience at Antinori, decided to convert the family business into a winery and planted only vineyards. Thanks to his great passion for the land, passed on by his grandfather Emilio, to his pursuit for quality and to his great experience gained over the years, Maurizio built his wine cellar; a small innovative and functional cellar with the aim to combine authentic tradition with the most advanced winemaking techniques in order to exclusively produce high quality wines. The first harvest was made in 2003 which created their first wine called “Emilio Primo” along with their reserve wine “Il Tarabuso”. Today Maurizio Fuselli and his sons take care of the vineyards with a sustainable viticulture by bringing all the passion from the land into the bottle, because, as Maurizio says: “Good wine come from its vineyard”.
